iPhoneographer of the Week - Ivan Sciupac | @ivansciupac
Thanks to iPhoneogenic for the interview!
This week I won’t do much talking, Ivan Sciupac’s work speaks for itself. I will say if you enjoy iPhone street photography than Ivan’s got you covered in the DC metro area.

Portrait 7/100: Miko and Pocky
On July 30th, I took a white backdrop and my Canon DSLR/50mm lens and set up an impromptu street studio outside my apartment on Euclid and 17th streets in Adams Morgan, a corner known not just for its cultural diversity but for its historically high crime rate. My intention was to capture the humanity of 100 strangers, to meet and talk to them, and to become more involved in the community I have called home for most of my adult life.
Miko was shy. Very shy. She didn’t want her portrait taken. But it was so obvious how much she loved her Schnauzer Pocky (pronounced Pookie) that we were able to come up with a creative way to capture her (and his) portrait.
Pocky was disinterested, though, in what was going on until I took the first photo. The sound of the camera caught his attention. He then stared at me for a few seconds while I took a better shot of him looking right at me.

Portrait 3/100: Scott
On July 30th, I took a white backdrop and my Canon DSLR/50mm lens and set up an impromptu street studio outside my apartment on Euclid and 17th streets in Adams Morgan, a corner known not just for its cultural diversity but for its historically high crime rate. My intention was to capture the humanity of 100 strangers, to meet and talk to them, and to become more involved in the community I have called home for most of my adult life.
Scott crossed the street when he saw what I was doing and was more than happy to stop to have his portrait taken. We talked about the tattoos on his arm for a few minutes but I was still re-finding my journalism skills and unfortunately didn’t ask a lot of follow-ups. At this point, the project was still new and I found that with time and comfort, I became better at talking with people. I wish I had talked more with Scott, he seemed like a good guy. From a technical standpoint, this is probably my favorite portrait from the whole series.

There’s a lens in my eye!
Bought the wide angle/macro iPhone lens attachment from the Photojojo store and went macro crazy when it came in. Honestly, I had no idea my eyes were that hue of green.

My dad last came to visit me in DC in 2005 when I needed to have surgery. One night, after deciding we should have empanadas for dinner, he went to Julia’s and bought 20, thinking they would be appetizer-sized and we would each have three or four. Little did he know that just one Julia’s empanada is a meal by itself!
Here we are standing on 19th Street near my old apartment in April during the height of the Cherry Blossom season.

You walk on sunshine, I’ll walk on water.

Out for a run during our weekend at Deep Creek Lake. I went 4 miles. Elizabeth? Eleven freaking miles in the heat and on rolling hills. Bad ass.
